EIGHTH GENERATION

1649. Henry (Harry) Foxall Thorne I was born on 22 Jan 1881 in Bonner Springs, KS. He died on 27 Jan 1956 in Roswell, NM. Harry Thorne died of a heart attack. DEPUTY SHERRIFF HARRY THORNE: 6 ft 4 in & skinny.

Henry Foxall Thorne I AKA Harry; according to the "New Mexico Law" of March 1953, he held the record as longest serving, continuous peace officer in the state of New Mexico. He was made a peace officer in 1897 . Later he joined the Sheep Sanitary Board (this is serious stuff folks!) During his career as a peace officer he served with many famous New Mexico lawmen including Sam McCue, Walter McDonald, Frank Young, Howell Gage & Les Dow. In Jan of 1929 he became the sheriff of Roswell, New Mexico & was the first republican to hold that office. At this point they chose to move the family into the jail house where his wife Myrtle was paid to cook for the prisoners. They saved this money to send their boys to college. While working for the Sheep Sanitary Board as an inspector he contracted TB, but recovered & was able to return to work.

He spent his entire life with ranching & horsework. His descendants are throughout the U.S. at this point, but he is another example of the honest, hardworking tradition of the Thorn/e Family.

He was married to Myrtle Irene White on 28 Apr 1909 in New Mexico. Myrtle Irene White was born on 11 Jul 1884 in Hutchinson, Reno Co, KS. She died on 13 Jul 1962 in New Mexico. Henry (Harry) Foxall Thorne I and Myrtle Irene White had the following children:
