2874. Francis Thomas Thorne was born on 15 Sep 1863 in Wayne Co, IN. He died on 3 Jan 1941 in York, NE. Immeadiate cause of death was pneumonia due to influenza He died age 75 He was buried on 6 Jan 1941 in York, NE. Greenwood Cemetery Lot 52 grave 1 sect B. He was Quaker. Philip V. Thorne Notes:

Francis was his given name but he went by FRANK.. He was raised in Quaker church. He lived Indiana, Iowa, Dakota Territory, Oregon & finally York, Nebraska. I'm given to understand he was involved with farming & ranching his whole life. I never had an opportunity to know him. However my Mom Eleanor Thorne describes him as a tall, well dressed & dignified Englishman (in appearance). (Other family members have told me that Frank Thorne was only about 5 ft 7 inches tall, which is an average Thorn/e height). He homesteaded land in Nebraska plus was a CATTLE DROVER by trade. We have a number of fotos of him in full cowboy regalia. When I was a youngster my Grandad Charlie Thorne gave me a pair of very fancy engraved cowboy leather cuffs worn by him & his father. I still have them.

He was married to Lorinda May Calkins (daughter of David J. Calkins and Melissa Letina Coutts) on 23 Apr 1887 in Highmore, Dakota Territory. Dan Thorne has 17 Feb? Lorinda May Calkins was born on 14 Mar 1870 in Vinton, Story County, IA. She died on 26 Jan 1949 in York, NE. She died at York General Hospital. Cause of Death was cancer of the neck glands. She passed away at 11:00 AM. Aged 77 yrs 10 mos & 12 days. She was buried on 30 Jan 1949 in York, NE. Greenwood Cemetery No 52 - grave 3 div. B Services were held at York Nazarene Church, Sunday 2:30 PM 30 Jan 1949. Rev EA Rodewald officiating. The day of her Funeral there was a bitterly cold snowy, Nebraska storm. Her nickname was Linny. Her grandchildren describe her as being very very sweet. According to her grandson Don Thorne she worked as a mid wife & apparently helped deliver a number of babies.
