242. William Thorne was born on 18 Jul 1731 in Hempstead, Long Island, NY. He died on 2 Sep 1783 in Great Neck, Hempstead, LI, NY. William was a vestryman in the St. Georges Church at Hempstead, Long Island until 1767. He later joined the Society of Friends and died in Great Neck, LI.

He was married to Martha Cornell (daughter of Thomas Cornell and Sarah Doughty) on 9 Mar 1754 in St George's Church, Hempstead, LI, NY. Martha Cornell was born on 28 Feb 1732. She died on 2 Feb 1783. Martha was baptized with six of her children in St. Georges Ch. Jan. 8, 1768 according to NY Gen. & Bio. Record Vol. XI pg. 90-92.
