135. Isaac Thorne
was born on 13 Dec 1752 in Nine Partners, Dutchess Co, NY. He died on 20 Feb
1829 in Nine Partners, Dutchess Co, NY. It was this ISAAC THORNE that would
build the successful store at Mechanic.
In 1795, he was a member of the committee of Friends which purchased the Mabbett
property and converted the building into a boarding school. This famous instititution
opened in 1796; among its best know pupils were James Mott and Lucretia Coffin,
who married and became leaders in Philadelphia in movements for women's rights
and the abolition of slavery (Dutchess Co. Historical Society Year Book, v 20,
page 25).
Isaac's will was executed Jun 6, 1828 and proved Feb 24, 1829 in the Town of
Washington, Dutchess County, NY. While mentioning numerous relatives, brothers,
nephews and nieces, it does not mention children or grandchildren. According
to family records he and his wife had no children. He was married to Anna Titus
(daughter of Stephen Titus and Sarah
Mott) on 26 Nov 1772 in Nine Partners Friends (Quaker) Monthly Meeting.
Anna Titus was born on 12 Dec 1754. BD calculated. She died on
